The trailer for the upcoming Netflix series, All the Light We Cannot See, has been released, revealing that many parts of the show were filmed in Budapest and Soponya.
All the Light We Cannot See is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, written by Anthony Doerr. The four-episode series tells the story of a young blind girl and her father as they try to escape from Nazi-occupied France.
The show was executive produced by Shawn Levy, who has previously directed episodes of the highly successful Netflix series Stranger Things. The lead role of the father is played by Mark Ruffalo, known for his portrayal of Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The role of the blind daughter is played by Aria Mia Loberti, who landed the part despite having no previous acting experience and being legally blind due to a rare genetic eye disease.
Several of the scenes for the show were filmed in Hungary, with Budapest being a key location. The Festetics Palace, the Zichy Castle in Sopoly, and the Exchange Palace were all used as shooting locations. Additionally, a section of Vécsey Street was used to recreate the famous Parisian boulevard, the Champs-Élysées.
Designed by the renowned 19th-century Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl, the Festetics Palace is home to the Andrássy University Budapest. It can be found behind the Museum Garden.
Built in the late 18th century and expanded by architect Mihály Pollack, the 200-year-old Zichy Castle has been abandoned and unused since 1998.
Constructed in 1907 by Ignác Alpár and currently the home of Hungarian Television, the Exchange Palace is a stunning example of Art Nouveau architecture.
All the Light We Cannot See is an eagerly anticipated Netflix series that promises to be both moving and insightful. Its choice of Hungarian filming locations adds an extra level of interest for those who are familiar with Budapest and its landmarks.
